Holidays to Vancouver, uncover the history of Canada!!

Vancouver is just on the coast of Canada. Before the City of Vancouver was built, there were indications of Aborigines from about 10,000 years ago. This is the city that has provided much for the world including sports and arts.

Sometime in 1858, there was a Gold rush, to be specific, it was the Fraser Gold Rush, almost twenty five thousand people walked over the land that would become Vancouver. in 1863 a wood mill was created and this and a pub was all that Vancouver consisted of, however it was a very key area for the rest of Canada providing the railways with wood. Alaska Cruises have become very popular travelling through Canada and parts of America.

Vancouver was incorporated on April the 6th in 1886, and named so to honour George Vancouver, the naval officer who was a famous explorer. Interestingly though only a few months later a fire broke out and the entire city was razed, it was rebuilt very quickly after this. Vancouver’s original 1000 population increased 100 fold in the space of twenty years.

At the end of the 1920′s the Great depression got under way. Because there was no work available, people were losing there homes and families, they were taken to internment camps. This went on for five years; eventually the men in these camps led a march into the city centre and got on a train to Mission City, to solve this problem. There was one problem, Mission City was ready and waiting for them, the train carrying all the people was met by a rather large Gatling Gun.

Vancouver is now a great tourist destination, with a wide range of arts and cultures celebrating many different festivals. Vancouver is the place for many sports as well including the Canadian past time Ice Hockey. Canada tours usually travel through this wondrous city.
