Torquay or Not Torquay, Is That The Question?
That time of year is upon us when everyone is thinking about plans for their next holiday.
Brochures have been grabbed from the local travel agents, just so we can have a little peek at all the places we can’t afford!!
It seems that holiday brochures get thicker and thicker each year, but have you noticed that all the families in the photos seem to get thinner!! Why is it that there doesn’t seem to be any sort of normality in anything any more. Why is it that everything we pick up shows stick thin people? Not everybody is thin, so stop shoving it in our faces.
What happened to the good old UK family holidays of old, where kids were pictured stuffing their faces with ice creams whilst mum and dad enjoyed their fish and chip lunch. Nowadays the children have to eat their fruit whilst mum and dad endure their salad!!!!
A few years back we enjoyed a self catering Torquay holiday. I will say that usually we go abroad, just to guarantee a bit of sunshine. Unfortunately money was very tight and what with all the problems at the airports, we decided to give Torquay a try.
We felt like we were in the Mediterranean anyway because of the famous Torbay palm trees and we were surprised by just how much there was to keep us occupied. The children played some great games down on the sand and we were really lucky to have brilliant weather. It was a different type of holiday, but thoroughly enjoyable all the same.
It was funny as lots of the people we bumped into during our stay visited Torquay every year just to play bowls. Apparently bowling holidays are a big event nowadays and tournaments are played all around the country.I am thinking that perhaps this is a sport that my hubby and I could do together. Now that the children are pretty much off our hands, and with us hitting our middle age, probably our adventure holidays are a thing of the past, so maybe we could both get into bowling. He can’t be good at everything, so you never know I might actually beat him for once!
